First Time at High Point Market: What I’m Bringing (and Why I’m So Excited)

If there’s one thing I’ve learned lately, it’s that stepping into something new ~ even while scared ~ can lead to the most incredible opportunities. Saying yes before I felt fully ready has shaped so much of this journey with Gumdrop Decor. It’s a little reminder I keep close: growth doesn’t wait for perfect timing, and sometimes the best things happen when you just trust yourself enough to start.

This will be my very first time attending High Point Market, and honestly, I’m so excited! While I have experience in fashion retail (and have been to fashion markets before), stepping into the furniture and home decor world feels like opening a whole new chapter. Curating quality, colorful, fun pieces for Gumdrop Decor has been such an amazing adventure and learning more about interior design along the way has made it even better.

Since this is my first furniture market, I’m going in as prepared as I can be. Here’s what’s coming with me:

🎒 A Comfortable Backpack
I’ve learned from fashion markets that carrying a giant tote all day is not it. A good backpack is essential! It keeps my hands free, saves my shoulders, and lets me move around without feeling weighed down.

🖊️ Pens, Business Cards, and a Notebook
I’m a huge fan of writing things down on paper. I’ll be jotting down booth numbers, design ideas, and whatever brilliant inspirations pop up. Business cards are ready too - I’m hoping to meet some amazing new vendors and collaborators.

💧 Water and Snacks
Protein bars, a refillable water bottle - all the essentials to avoid that mid-afternoon crash. (Hangry shopping is not the vibe.)

📝 A Shopping List
I have a rough plan so I stay focused (but still leave room for surprises). I’m especially hunting for:

• Colorful, unique shelving

• Smaller furniture pieces (something special for those nooks and cozy corners)

• Anything that feels bold, joyful, and a little unexpected

Basically, I’m on the lookout for pieces that make you do a double take-the ones you can’t stop thinking about after you walk away.
